The Edge of Darkness by Andrew Shenton

The stars aligned for this one to come off, well actually the sun and Marsh Lane cutting. Periodically I use a sun position calculator and align with the local railway lines to hunt out any interesting lighting opportunities. One such opportunity was here, in mid July at about 8:30pm the setting sun aligns perfectly with Marsh Lane cutting and at just the right height to illuminate the tunnel. Fortunately a regular Yorkshire Dales to Hunslet Stone train is timed to pass just after 8:30pm, so all the elements came together; clear skies, sun position, a running train and finally having the time to spare. It was a close run thing though, this working passed at 8:39pm and the sun is already moving off centre, to show how small this window of opportunity is, I waited a few more minutes for the following Trainspennine Express 185 and the sun had almost completely gone. The working is 6D77 the 16:43 Arcow Quarry to Hunslet loaded stone, with 66783 "The Flying Dustman" Biffa livery (Ex EWS 66058). 8:39pm 17th July 2018. https://flic.kr/p/29fK4aw
