A very full Moon rose over Manhattan's Upper Eastside on June 28, known to some as the Strawberry Moon. Near the horizon, the warm yellow lunar disk was a bit ruffled and dimmed by a long sight-line through dense, hazy atmosphere. Still it fit well with traffic and lights along East 96th street in this urban astroimage. The telephoto shot was (safely) taken from elevated ground looking east-southeast from Central Park, planet Earth. Unlike most entries in Charles Messier's famous catalog of deep sky objects, M24 is not a bright galaxy, star cluster, or nebula. It's a gap in nearby, obscuring intertellar dust clouds that allows a view of the distant stars in the Sagittarius spiral arm of our Milky Way galaxy. When you gaze at the star cloud with binoculars or small telescope you are looking through a window over 300 light-years wide at stars some 10,000 light-years or more from Earth. Sometimes called the Small Sagittarius Star Cloud, M24's luminous stars fill the left side of this gorgeous starscape. Covering about 4 degrees or the width of 8 full moons in the constellation Sagittarius, the telescopic field of view contains many small, dense clouds of dust and nebulae toward the center of the Milky Way, including reddish emission from IC 1284 near the top of the frame. via NASA https://ift.tt/2NaRJXN

IE나 크롬 같은 하나의 인터넷 브라우저에서 여러 탭을 띄워 많은 사이트를 동시에 열어 보는 것처럼 탭 달린 창은 윈도에서 실행한 앱 옆에 다른 탭을 띄워 관련 작업을 하나의 응용 프로그램에서 볼 수 있도록 만든 것입니다. 실행된 응용 프로그램에 따라 추가 탭에 IE를 띄우거나 탐색기 같은 기능을 바로 열어서 작업할 수도 있고, 워드 편집을 할 때 필요한 리소스를 열 수 있는 탭을 띄울 수도 있는데요. 이는 특정 작업을 할 때 프로그램 창을 전환하면서 생기는 혼란을 줄일 수 있어 좀더 효율적인 작업을 할 수 있습니다. 다만 마이크로소프트가 셋츠를 지난 4월 업데이트에 적용하지 않은 것은 프로그램의 호환성과 복잡성으로 인해 사용자들이 이 기능을 쓸 것인지 확신이 적었던 것으로 알려졌는데요. 비표준 프로그램들로 인해 탭 안에서 충돌을 일으키거나 손상될 수 있는 만큼 좀더 안정성을 찾으려 한 듯 보입니다. 일단 다음 업데이트에서 셋츠가 나올 것으로 예상되지만, 안정성이 담보되지 않으면 이 기능의 적용은 더 뒤로 미뤄질 것으로 보입니다. from techG http://techg.kr/21975 via IFTTT

What can you see in the night sky this summer? The featured graphic gives a few highlights for Earth's northern hemisphere. Viewed as a clock face centered at the bottom, early (northern) summer sky events fan out toward the left, while late summer events are projected toward the right. Objects relatively close to Earth are illustrated, in general, as nearer to the cartoon figure with the telescope at the bottom center -- although almost everything pictured can be seen without a telescope. As happens during any season, constellations appear the same year to year, and meteor showers occur on or near the same dates. It looks like a big space diamond -- but with craters. It's 162173 Ryugu (Dragon's Castle), and Japan's robotic Hayabusa2 mission is now arriving at this near-Earth asteroid. Ambitious Hayabusa2 is carrying an armada of separable probes, including two impactors, four small close-proximity hoverers, three small surface hoppers, and the Mobile Asteroid Surface Scout (MASCOT) which will land, study, and move around on Ryugu's surface. Most of these are equipped with cameras. Moreover, Hayabusa2 itself is scheduled to collect surface samples and return these samples to Earth for a detailed analysis near the end of 2020. Previously, what was known about asteroid Ryugu was its orbit, that it spans about one kilometer, and that it has a dark surface that reflects unusual colors. Studying Ryugu could tell humanity not only about Ryugu's surface and interior, but about what materials were available in the early Solar System for the development of life. Winds on Mars can't actually blow spacecraft over. But in the low gravity, martian winds can loft fine dust particles in planet-wide storms, like the dust storm now raging on the Red Planet. From the martian surface on sol 2082 (June 15), this self-portrait from the Curiosity rover shows the effects of the dust storm, reducing sunlight and visibility at the rover's location in Gale crater. Made with the Mars Hand Lens Imager, its mechanical arm is edited out of the mosaicked images. Curiosity's recent drill site Duluth can be seen on the rock just in front of the rover on the left. The east-northeast Gale crater rim fading into the background is about 30 kilometers away. Curiosity is powered by a radioisotope thermoelectric generator and is expected to be unaffected by the increase in dust at Gale crater. A small crystal ball seems to hold a whole galaxy in this creative snapshot. Of course, the galaxy is our own Milky Way. Its luminous central bulge marked by rifts of interstellar dust spans thousands of light-years. On this long southern hemisphere night it filled dark Chilean skies over Paranal Observatory. The single exposure image did not require a Very Large Telescope, though. Skies after the near-solstice sunset on June 17 are reflected in this calm lake. The tranquil twilight scene was captured near Bashaw, Alberta, Canada, northern planet Earth. Usually spotted at high latitudes in summer months, night shining or noctilucent clouds hang just above the horizon, transfusing light into a darker sky. Near the edge of space, the icy apparitions are condensations on meteoric dust or volcanic ash still in sunlight at extreme altitudes. They may look like round rocks, but they're alive. Moreover, they are modern versions of one of the oldest known forms of life: stromatolites. Fossils indicate that stromatolites appeared on Earth about 3.7 billion years ago -- even before many of the familiar stars in the modern night sky were formed. In the featured image taken in Western Australia, only the ancient central arch of our Milky Way Galaxy formed earlier. Even the Magellanic Clouds, satellite galaxies of our Milky Way and visible in the featured image below the Milky Way's arch, didn't exist in their current form when stromatolites first grew on Earth. Stromatolites are accreting biofilms of billions of microorganisms that can slowly move toward light. 삼성이 플렉서블 디스플레이를 넣어 유연하게 접고 펼 수 있는 스마트폰을 개발 중이라는 소문을 많이 접했을 텐데요. 그런데 중국의 트위터 사용자 가 삼성에서 개발하다 중단한 것으로 보이는 두 개 화면을 가진 접이식 스마트폰의 시제품을 공개해 눈길을 끌었습니다. 이 트위터 사용자가 공개한 접이식 스마트폰은 두 개의 화면을 가진 제품으로 ZTE가 CES에서 공개했던 엑손 M처럼 접으면 앞뒤 양면이었다가 펼치면 두 개 화면을 나란히 보는 형태입니다. 이 제품은 프로젝트 V 또는 프로젝트 밸리(Project Valley)라는 코드명으로 2015년 즈음 개발을 시작했고 실제 2016년에 출시될 것으로 알려진 제품으로 취소된 제품 모델 번호는 SM-G929F라고 트위터리안은 주장했습니다. 현재 삼성은 해당 제품에 대한 개발을 더 이상 진행하지 않는 대신 코드명 위너라는 이름으로 폴더블 스마트폰을 개발 중입니다. from techG http://techg.kr/21930 via IFTTT

인텔은 현재 GPU 코어를 통합한 프로세서를 내놓고 있지만, 아직 독립형 GPU 분야에서 경쟁할 만한 제품을 내놓지는 못하고 있는데요. 그런데 인텔의 트위터 공식 계정을 통해 2020년에 독립형 GPU를 출시할 것이라는 짧은 트윗을 게시했습니다. Sometimes the Sun's surface becomes a whirlwind of activity. Pictured is a time-lapse video of the Sun's surface taken over a two hour period in early May, run both forwards and backwards. The Sun's surface was blocked out so that details over the edge could be imaged in greater detail. Hot plasma is seen swirling over the solar limb in an ongoing battle between changing magnetic fields and constant gravity. The featured prominence rises about one Earth-diameter over the Sun's surface. What's happened to Mars? In 2001, Mars underwent a tremendous planet-wide dust storm -- one of the largest ever recorded from Earth. To show the extent, these two Hubble Space Telescope storm watch images from late June and early September (2001) offer dramatically contrasting views of the martian surface. At left, the onset of smaller "seed" storms can be seen near the Hellas basin (lower right edge of Mars) and the northern polar cap. A similar surface view at right, taken over two months later, shows the fully developed extent of the obscuring global storm. It's storm season on Mars. Dusty with a chance of dust is the weather report for Gale crater as a recent planet-scale dust storm rages. On June 10 looking toward the east-northeast crater rim, the Curiosity rover's Mastcam captured this image of its local conditions so far. Meanwhile over 2,000 kilometers away, the Opportunity rover ceased science operations as the storm grew thicker at its location on the west rim of Endeavour crater, and has stopped communicating, waiting out the storm for now. Curiosity is powered by a radioisotope thermoelectric generator, but the smaller Opportunity rover uses solar panels to charge its batteries.
